Chalk Artists are the heart of the Festival

We could not do this without the talent of our artists! Our artists truly are the heart of our festival and give us the perfect backdrop to share our message about the importance of Utah Foster Care.

Registration is now closed.

General Information

  • Artists can chalk from 12 pm Friday, July 12th until Saturday, July 13th at 4 pm.
  • All artists will be given a Chalk Art T-shirt, lunch on Saturday, water, and chalk.
  • Please feel free to bring a canopy for shade!
  • Judging will take place on Saturday promptly at 4 pm.  Winners will be announced at 6 pm.

Rules:

To keep the festival a great experience for artists and guests, we’ve put together a list of rules.

  1. All artists must have their design pre-approved by UFC. If an artist would like to change their design, they will need to resubmit their new design for approval.
  2. Artwork may not include nudity, lewdness, political messages, personal agendas, any controversial subject, or anything deemed to be inappropriate by the festival organizers. Scenes that are not in harmony with the spirit of the festival may be removed or altered by the festival organizers.
  3. All chalk must stay inside of your designated square.
  4.  Artists are not allowed to add signage or displays by their square. A social media handle of the artist’s choice will be included on the formal signage provided by the festival.
  5.  We encourage original art. If the artwork is not original, please seek out permission from the owner of the artwork and include credit to the original artist.
  6. Tracing, stencling, and pouncing will not be allowed for those wanting to compete for awards or prizes. If this is your preferred method, you’re still welcome to chalk with us, but will not be included in the judging. Gridding is allowed for the competition.
  7. Washable tempera paint is allowed. Oil pastels are absolutely not allowed. Artists may be responsible for the clean up of unapproved media.
  8. Artists may work alone or in teams up to 4 people.
  9. The type of team will be determined by the age of the oldest artist.
  10. Artists are allowed to bring a canopy for shade.
  11. Please be respectful of neighbors by staying in your own area and keeping your area clean.
  12. Please do not sell any items at your square or display any other signs, etc.
  13. Given the nature of our event, we request you not display tip jars. You may accept tips, but please refrain from providing a tip jar.

Note to artists:

While it isn’t expected to get a sponsor for your art, if you have an employer, friend, or family that would like to sponsor your art, please reach out to crystal.ashton@utahfostercare.org
