Symposium Highlight: The Honorable Karla Staheli

By March 14, 2011July 18th, 2017General, Parent-focused

Fifth District Juvenile Court Judge Karla Staheli and I go a few years back when I was working in the Southwest Region and training families for placement of children in foster care. Karla (Judge Staheli) was the Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) for SW region and we both attended the SW Regional Adoption Placement Committee. It was there that I got to know the depth of her commitment to children. She had such a passion for law, as well as finding homes for children who could not go home.

As time progressed, Karla became familiar with a case of two teen-age boys who grabbed her heart, and as the story goes, she stepped into foster parenting and adopted them. As the mother of two boys who had experienced severe trauma in their lifetime, she rode the honeymoon, weathered the challenges (including from the other side of the courtroom) and continues to love and support them today.

We are fortunate to have Judge Staheli as one of our honored speakers for the 2nd Annual UFCF Symposium: Trauma & Attachment / 2011: A Closer Look on April 13–14.

Her story and subsequent experiences of being on the other side of the law provides valuable insight and hope for families and professionals in similar situations. Foster parents, counselors, court personnel, anyone who works with families and children — will benefit from Judge Staheli’s knowledge, wisdom and sense of humor.

Join us for Judge Staheli’s presentation “Parenting on the Other Side – When Your Child with Trauma and Attachment Issues Breaks the Law,” along with other powerful speakers.

Online registration is now open.
