If you think back to when you first attended pre-service classes to prepare you for foster parenting, you’ll remember we spent a little time talking about each of the critical concepts of Attachment, Development, and Grief and Loss. We discussed what may happen to a child who suffers those losses and how that may affect their attachment styles.
He has the unique ability to take the most complicated and technical of subjects and explain them in such a way you will feel as you walk away that you are already more capable of understanding and helping the kids in your care, just from listening to him.
I’m also sure you’ll remember a time or two when I encouraged you to read the book The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog, go to the Child Trauma Academy website and see the latest information on how abuse and neglect affect the developing brain, or quoted, information by the author of that book, Dr. Bruce Perry. Some have even accused me of being a Dr. Perry “groupie” because I’ve mentioned his work so often. While I think that may be a bit extreme, I am very excited to tell you we will have the amazing opportunity to hear from Dr. Perry himself at Utah Foster Care Foundation’s upcoming Symposium on Trauma and Attachment on April 18-19th.
I encourage you to try to attend and know it will be well worth your time if you do. He has the unique ability to take the most complicated and technical of subjects and explain them in such a way you will feel as you walk away that you are already more capable of understanding and helping the kids in your care, just from listening to him. This truly is a rare opportunity. Hope to see you there!
