A Night of Connection and Reading Together

Families Come Together for Reading and Support at Utah Foster Care

On November 12, 2024, families across Utah came together for a heartwarming evening of connection, learning, and community support at Utah Foster Care in Murray, Utah. Co-hosted by Raising a Reader, Room to Read, Waterford, and Vroom by Envision Utah, the event offered valuable resources and interactive activities to support young children’s reading and early development.

Children and families in attendance explored new ways to engage in reading together and learning at home.

Highlights of the Evening

  • Raising a Reader shared their Beyond the ABCs: A Family Guide to Social-Emotional Learning, along with Freddy, the beloved stuffed bulldog that had children smiling and ready to learn more about expressing emotions.
  • Room to Read provided nearly 1,500 books from their Children in Care collection, offering the young readers stories that reflect the experiences of living in foster care and inspire a sense of belonging and hope.
  • Waterford shared their Upstart activity sheets, showing families how to access their comprehensive early learning program and offering hands-on activities for continued learning at home.

Empowering and Connecting

The event wasn’t just about providing resources—it was about building connections. Families had the chance to meet each other and share experiences, while children participated in fun, educational games led by the event partners. Feedback from families was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their gratitude for the resources and the sense of community.

This special night of collaboration and care underscored the commitment of Utah Foster Care and partners to creating lasting impact for children and families. Families left with confidence in their ability to foster a love of learning and reading at home.

The event was a reminder of the power of coming together to uplift and support families across Utah.
