5 things your retention specialist wants you to know about GOOD GRIEF

By: Bethany Ross

Retention Specialist, Southwest Region

Good grief is a monthly support group hosted in St. George and Cedar City by our licensed clinician, Ben Ashcraft.

  1. You donโ€™t have to be grieving to attend. One of Good Griefโ€™s primary purposes is to connect foster parents. This means when things get tough and you need someone to lean on; youโ€™ve built relationships that can help support you.
  2. Itโ€™s an ongoing support group for the good, the bad and the ugly. While the title implies the focus is grief, we equally celebrate the wins.
  3. Itโ€™s confidential. This is a Utah Foster Care support group and what we discuss stays within Utah Foster Care (unless someoneโ€™s safety is at risk.) Itโ€™s a safe space to open up and work through some of the harder aspects of foster care.  A lot of what you experience as a foster parent involves private and sensitive information that canโ€™t be discussed openly. This group is a safe place where this information can be unloaded and processed with people who understand and empathize with the unique challenges.
  4. We provide lunch and childcare AND you earn an hour of in person training! Need I say more?
  5. YOU have a lot to offer. Your perspective matters. Your story and experience could be a valuable source of encouragement for other foster parents on similar journeys. Donโ€™t underestimate what you can contribute.

Good Grief schedule:

St. George, 2nd Tuesday of every month at 12pm at the Utah Foster Care office & streamed.

Cedar City, 2nd Thursday of every month at 12pm at Ridge Park (weather permitting.)

Be sure to RSVP in the training portal so we get a correct headcount for food, childcare AND you get that training hour!

We hope to see you there.
