In the Shoes of the Child

By October 14, 2022General

Jeannine Timothy stands “in the shoes of the child” in foster care as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) in the Utah Juvenile Courts. She represents the best interest of children in matters such as reunification with their family of origin, permanent custody and guardianship with a relative, trial to terminate parental rights, adoption, or other placement. When involved in a child custody case, Jeannine visits her young clients in their homes and meets the foster parents who care for the children.

“It is the Guardian ad Litem’s duty to stand in the shoes of the child and to weigh the factors as the child would weigh them if his judgment were mature and he was not of tender years.”

– J.W.F v. Schoolcraft, 763 P.2d 1217, 1222 (Utah Ct. App. 1988)

Supporting Families

Serving on the Utah Foster Care’s Board of Directors has given her the opportunity to learn about all the hard work which creates the foundation for well-trained foster parents and provides continuing support for them and their families. Jeannine is very proud to serve as the current Chair of the Board.

In her free time, Jeannine enjoys spending time with her husband, children and granddaughter, meeting with her siblings every Tuesday morning, catching up with friends, reading and cross-stitching.

We are grateful to have Jeannine’s insight and passion as a part of our Utah Foster Care family and Board of Directors.
