UFCF Symposium — What to Expect

By Liz Rivera, UFCF Trainer, SLV Region

Many foster families who went through pre-service training with me heard me talk about the work of Dr. Bruce D. Perry on trauma and attachment. Now, on the 18th of April, we will be so lucky to have an entire day to hear from Dr. Perry at our 3rd Annual Utah Foster Care Foundation Symposium.  Not only is the setting gorgeous (the Zermatt Resort in Midway, Utah), the topic and time together will also uplift us all.

Dr. Perry is one of our nation’s leading researchers of how early maltreatment affects children’s development and the potential paths to healing.  Not only is he amazingly knowledgeable, he approaches his work with a depth of humanity and compassion that is inspiring. He is also an engaging and funny speaker.  It is a real treat that we are going to have him for a whole day!  I highly encourage you to be there!

On the second day of the Symposium (April 19) I am honored,  very humbled (and more than a little terrified!), to be able to follow Dr. Perry’s presentation with the Circle of Security parenting series. This is a wonderful approach to attachment that was developed, with decades of research, by Kent Hoffman, Bert Powell and Glen Cooper.  The series is actually designed to be taught over eight weeks, but we’re going to do the whole thing in six hours!  It should be a fun ride!  Licensed foster parents will receive in-service training hours.

See you there!
