About the Role
This role is part-time (15โ20 hours/week) and covers the southern portion of the Eastern Region (Grand and San Juan Counties). The role is centered on nurturing relationships with potential and existing foster and adoptive families, building community partnerships, and helping ensure that children in foster care have stable, caring homes.
Key Responsibilities
Family Recruitment & Support
- Build meaningful relationships through in-home and virtual consultations with prospective foster and adoptive families.
- Support foster parents and their capacity to care for children in foster care, including those with mental, behavioral, and emotional health needs.
- Coordinate ongoing peer support groups (“Clusters”) throughout the region, including identifying, training, and supporting Cluster Facilitators.
- Work closely with the mentor and clinical programs to support foster families.
Retention & Regional Planning
- In collaboration with DCFS Regional Administration, create and implement an annual Regional Retention Plan targeting specific retention needs.
- Oversee Wishing Well requests from the region, giving initial approval to appropriate requests and forwarding them to the Director of Retention.
- Be prepared to take advantage of additional opportunities to support foster families and the children they care for as they arise.
Community Partnerships & Outreach
- Represent Utah Foster Care in the community, strengthening public awareness and building community connections.
- Work with local Indigenous communities to build partnerships and increase awareness of the needs.
- In collaboration with the Director of Retention and Development Team, develop and cultivate partnerships with individuals, businesses, churches, and civic organizations โ promoting support for foster families via in-kind donations, discounts, volunteer activities, and more.
- Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to support community volunteer engagement.
Communications & Administration
- Assist in content creation for a statewide semi-monthly foster parent newsletter, including region-specific content.
- Data input and management across multiple platforms.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge & Skills
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and verbal communication skills; ability to create connections and foster trust.
- Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
- Comfortable using technology and learning new platforms; familiarity with social media is a must.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills; attention to detail; strong problem-solving abilities.
- Collaborative work style with management, peers, and others โ flexible to change, welcoming feedback, and able to admit and rectify mistakes in keeping with UFC’s Leadership & Self-Deception corporate culture.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a Human Servicesโrelated field, or a combination of professional and lived experience (e.g., serving as a foster or adoptive parent, or direct child welfare work).
- Experience with nonprofit or government child welfare agencies; knowledge of Utah’s foster care system preferred.
- If the applicant is a past or current foster parent, they must be in good standing with DCFS.
- Requires some evening and weekend hours and travel across a geographically large area.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs
