This week on social media we are featuring the finished video productions youth created during this summer’s Fostering Storytellers Camp. We hope you will follow along @utahfostercare to see the amazing work they have created.
Fostering Storytellers Camp
The morning of the premiere at Entrata started with a room full of people, excited to see what the youth of the Fostering Storytellers Camp had created. Five youth had been attending the Fostering Storytellers Camp three days a week for the last eight weeks. Dr. Evan Brown with the Meet and Teach Program taught them how to story tell, use cameras, lighting, mics, edit footage, and more. Each youth had the chance to create, edit, and produce a final piece the audience would soon see.
The event opened with each youth dancing their way on to the stage in the sunglasses of their choice. Debuting their own personal styles. Each youth had their own chair where they would sit to answer questions about the program from Dr. Evan and the audience. What bravery it takes to dance on to stage and then sit with an audience staring back at you. They were incredible!
The Debut
Attending the debut of these videos was such a touching event to be a part of. Listening to what this camp meant to the youth who were able to attend was inspiring. Many had always wanted to learn this type of skill but had never been given the opportunity. Many shared how valued and seen they felt while attending the camp. Youth shared how cool it was to be trusted with such expensive and high-end equipment.
All the youth shared how much Dr. Evan Brown meant to them. He showed up every day with high energy and enthusiasm to teach. He was fun and engaging and even has a hidden karaoke talent the youth exposed. The most important takeaway of this camp was hearing about how the youth felt.
Seen. Valued. Important. That they mattered. That their story was worth sharing.
Hearing these statements from young people’s mouths is more than anyone can ever ask for. What an invaluable lesson that every person needs in life, but especially youth today.
An Influence for Good
Dr. Evan Brown taught these youth to share their voice. That they mattered and that their story mattered. Having the opportunity to watch their final films was an honor. These youth learned some incredible skills and are truly so talented! The audience was blown away by the quality of what these youth created. They have even been invited to help film some upcoming footage at Entrata’s yearly Summit event. What a once in a lifetime opportunity!
Entrata provided this unforgettable experience for youth affected by Foster Care, and we cannot thank them enough. The skills these kids learned, but more importantly the way they felt, are things that can never be taken away from them. Thank you to Entrata and Dr. Evan Brown for this incredible opportunity. You have impacted these youth for good for the rest of their lives.
