Knowing is half the battle.

Online Training

While most of the required training is in-person, there are some online training videos for you to complete. Some of the videos will supplement the in-person trainings, others will provide you with an in-depth understanding of child welfare policy. Just be sure to take the accompanying quizzes!

In Class Training

Check-out the required in-person training schedules for prospective foster parents, found by clicking the green buttons below. Start by clicking on the region in which you reside (counties listed below) where you’ll find dates, times, and locations for training around the state. We may be biased, but our trainers are gifted professionals who will help you understand the needs of children in foster care and your role as a foster parent.

Once you know when and where you would like to begin the training, contact your consultant (the nice person who came to your home) and they’ll be sure to get you registered.

(Northern Region consists of: Box Elder, Cache, Davis, Morgan, Rich, and Weber Counties)

(Salt Lake Valley Region consists of: Salt Lake and Tooele Counties)

(Western Region consists of: Juab, Millard, Summit, Wasatch, and Utah Counties)

(Eastern Region consists of: Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, Grand, San Juan, Uintah Counties)

(Southwest Region consists of: Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, Washington, and Wayne Counties )

A few things to remember:

  • Register! Register! Register! Class times and locations can change last-minute. The only way you’ll be notified of these changes is if you’re registered for that class.
  • Ideally, both spouses attend all 8 in-person classes together and finish in one month. This may not always be possible (most people need to spread out the classes over a few months), but it’s your best option for faster licensing. Work with your region trainer to iron out the details.
  • Videos and quizzes must be completed by each parent.
  • Quizzes must be completed in order for you to graduate training, your application to be processed completely, and your homestudy to be scheduled.
  • Children may NOT attend.
  • Be on time and stay the entire time to receive credit.

Thank you for your commitment to children in care!
