Hundreds of children in Utah’s foster care system are getting a special holiday delivery this week, thanks to volunteer airmen from Hill Air Force Base and donors across the state.
The effort, known as Santa Brigade, brought more than 600 gifts, and in some cases meals, to families from Utah Foster Care offices in Clearfield and Murray.
Service members donated their own time, gas and even vacation days to make the deliveries.
“It means everything to me,” said Master Sgt. Mikael Cunningham, who helped load and deliver gifts. “For me to be able to do what I do, just to help them out for a day and make them feel seen or loved outside of just day-to-day activities, it makes me feel good.”
Utah currently has about 1,700 children in foster care. Roughly 70% will eventually reunite with their biological parents, but during the holidays, many families need extra support.
