When Sheri was just 12 years old, she made the courageous choice to report the abuse happening in her home. That brave act set her and her siblings on the path in
to foster care: a system that offered both hope and hardship. Over the next six years, Sheri moved through 13 different foster homes, facing separation from her twin sister and enduring constant instability. Yet through it all, she never lost her inner spark.
Sheri found strength in journaling, faith, and the unwavering support of her Big Sister through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. That one caring adult became an anchor during some of the hardest years of her life, reminding her that she was never fully alone.
But aging out of foster care at 18 brought new challenges. With no parents to lean on, no caseworkers to guide her, and bills piling up, Sheri had to navigate adulthood on her own. Like so many young people who age out of care, she faced the stark reality of building a future without a safety net. Yet she persisted, and then, she found Angels Landing Foundation.
Angels Landing is a nonprofit dedicated to helping young adults ages 18–26 transition successfully from foster care into independent living. They provide mental health resources, life skills classes, financial support, and community activities that remind young people they don’t have to walk this journey alone. For Sheri, Angels Landing was the answer to years of prayers: a space where she could heal, grow, and empower others.
Today, Sheri not only thrives personally but also works at Angels Landing to give back to youth who are walking the same path she once did. Her story is a testament to resilience, the power of one caring adult, and the life-changing impact of community-based support.
Sheri’s message is clear: foster youth are not defined by their past. With the right support, they can build the lives they’ve always dreamed of—and change generational outcomes for the better.
