Care Communities in St. George

A new statewide effort to support foster families through organized volunteer teams launched Thursday in Southern Utah, with Utah First Lady Abby Cox urging residents to “show up” for some of the state’s most vulnerable children.

Dozens gathered at the Salvation Army’s Southern Utah Service Center in Washington City for the kickoff of “Care Communities,” a program designed to connect volunteers with foster families in need of practical and emotional support.

The initiative pairs teams of eight to 10 volunteers — drawn from local congregations, businesses and neighborhoods — with individual foster families. Volunteers assist with meals, chores and mentoring, helping ease the day-to-day demands so foster parents can focus on the children in their care. Utah Foster Care finds, trains and supports each care member who serves for up to one year.
