The art exhibit will feature the work of those involved in any part of the foster care journey. This includes children in care\, foster parents\, primary families\, birth children in foster/adoptive families\, adoptive parents\, etc. We are accepting submissions from children\, youth\, and adults of all ages. We would love to feature your artwork! \n\n\n\nThe St. George Art Festival has generously reserved a section of their event the following weekend (April 3rd – 4th) to showcase some of the artwork featured at our Care Communities Kickoff event! As part of submitting your artwork for this event\, your piece may also be selected for displayed at the St. George Art Festival. \nWe are primarily requesting 2D visual art forms such as drawings\, paintings\, photography\, mixed media\, framed poetry\, etc. However\, we may be able to accept 3D art such as sculpture or ceramics on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us in advance if you would like to submit 3D art. Unfortunately\, we cannot accommodate artwork greater than 36″ in any dimension or greater than 60 lbs. \nOur theme for the art exhibit is Identity\, Belonging & Community. We invite participants to consider this theme as they create and submit their artwork. While the interpretation of the theme is in no way limited\, artwork could include depictions of family(ies) in various forms\, sibling relationships\, homes\, journeys of growth and healing\, and more. Artwork must be sensitive to the experiences of others and should not include depictions of violence\, substance use\, or other graphic imagery. \nYour artwork will be returned to you following the event. If you would like\, you may donate your artwork to Utah Foster Care\, in which case your artwork will be displayed at future Utah Foster Care events to raise awareness and tell the stories of foster care. \nPlease fill out the following form to submit your work for display. The event will take place on Saturday\, June 28th\, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Uintah County Library Lawn\, located at 235 E Main St.\, Vernal. \nThis FREE\, family-friendly event aims to bring together the local community to advocate for more foster families and brighter futures for children in foster care. Utah Foster Care and DCFS staff\, along with current foster families\, will speak on the critical need for more foster families in Duchesne and Uintah counties. \nAttendees will enjoy various fun and engaging activities suitable for all ages\, including a Biker Run\, bounce houses\, and making pinwheels in support of foster care. Miss Uintah and Miss Utah pageant queens will be participating throughout the event. Our annual Symposium brings local and national experts to share their knowledge and skills. The Symposium is open to foster parents\, adoptive parents\, professionals\, and the public. In addition to being an educational and social event\, the Symposium is one way for attendees to meet their personal educational goals. She was a Child Trauma Academy Fellow\, a TBRI Travis County Collaborative participant\, and co-founder of Simple Sparrow Farm. The care farm is a non-profit where she collaborates with Jamie Tanner\, Simple Sparrow owner and president\, to help heal individuals through farm related activities. Marti began her OT career at the Covered Bridge Special Education Co-op where she specialized in autism\, handwriting\, and creative adaptive equipment provided on a minimal budget. She currently specializes in sensory regulation as it relates to trauma and has helped develop the sensory portions of the CTA’s NMT and TCU’s TBRI education. She has completed additional certification and training in Interactive Metronome\, Therapeutic Listening\, Wilbarger Deep Pressure Protocol\, Therapeutic massage\, Floor Time\, Vestibular Dysfunction\, Reflex Integration\, Picky Eating\, Athletic Training\, CISM\, and Rescue Scuba Diving. She has been an international speaker since 2004\, sharing her passion to help children in creative\, fun\, inexpensive\, and simple therapeutic ways. She resides in Austin\, Texas with her husband and two children. She enjoys traveling\, nature\, photography\, quilting\, and spending time at Simple Sparrow Farm. \nShe has authored several books including The Connected Therapist: Relating Through the Senses\, Sensory Healing After Developmental Trauma\, Letter Babies\, Hints for Horrible Handwriting\, and PVC for Rehab. \n12:00pm – 1:00pm – Lunch Buffet Provided \n1:10pm – 4:00pm – Sensory Lab and Q/A with Marti \nThe sensory lab will provide a hands-on experience of some of the principles discussed in the lecture portion.
