OF THE
f RESOLUTION NO. _________ A RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT UTAH FOSTER CARE FOUNDATION AND STATEWIDE EFFORTS TO FIND AND NURTURE AMERICAN INDIAN/ALASKA NATIVE FOSTER FAMILIES IN THE STATE OF UTAH. BE IT ENACTED BY THE [NAME OF TRIBE AND TRIBE’S GOVERNING BODY] THAT:
 WHEREAS, the [INSERT BACKGROUND ON YOUR TRIBE’s GOVERNING BODY. INCLUDE when and how the governing body is defined, date of tribal constitution and by-law approval]. WHEREAS, the [INSERT NAME OF TRIBE] is a federally recognized Tribe under the protection of the United States, recognized by the United States as a sovereign Indian Tribe with legal rights and responsibilities; and WHEREAS, the [INSERT NAME OF TRIBE] desires to support statewide efforts and initiatives to find and nurture American Indian/Alaska Native foster families in the State of Utah; WHEREAS, the [INSERT NAME OF TRIBE] recognizes that Indian children are placed in foster care as a result of abuse, neglect and when they need a stable home to care for them; WHEREAS, the 1978 Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), federal law, requires that children in foster care be placed with family, kin, clan members, and tribal members in order to preserve and protect Indian families and culture; WHEREAS, Utah Foster Care Foundation is a non-profit organization contracted by the State of Utah, Division of Child and Family Services [DCFS] to find, educate, and support foster families caring for American Indian and Alaska Native children; WHEREAS, the [INSERT NAME OF TRIBE] further supports Utah Foster Care Foundation by offering a [INDICATE WHETHER IT’S ONE-TIME, QUARTERLY, ANNUALLY, BI-ANNUALLY] donation in the amount of [INSERT AMOUNT] to promote: 1) Initiatives and programs to increase the number of American Indian/Alaska Native foster homes, 2) Training for American Indian/Alaska Native families and community partners, 3) Eliminating barriers that prevent potential American Indian/Alaska Native homes from becoming eligible for foster care, and 4) Special needs of foster families and American Indian/Alaska Native children in foster care. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the [INSERT NAME OF TRIBE] supports Utah Foster Care Foundation and statewide efforts to find and nurture American Indian/Alaska Native foster homes. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the [INSERT NAME OF TRIBE] commit to offering this resolution and a donation in the amount of [INSERT] to be paid [INSERT FREQUENCY]; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the [INSERT NAME OF TRIBE] are committed to supporting the 1978 Indian Child Welfare Act and to protect and preserve American Indian/Alaska Native families and children.
